Ống phun hay ejector, hoạt động nhờ dòng nước chảy hoặc chất lỏng xử lý ( process liquid ) dưới áp xuất và vận tốc phù hợp, tạo ra lượng chân không cần thiết để vận hành bộ điều tiết. Trong một số trường hợp, có một máy bơm tăng áp để cấp đủ áp suất và lưu lượng nước.
Ejector có thể lắp đặt ở bất cứ vị trí nào trên đường ống, trên đầu ra của bơm chìm hoặc châm thẳng vào đường ống. Điểm châm dung dịch clo nên chọn ở vị trí có áp lực thấp nhất.
Chức năng của ejector là tạo ra tình trạng chân không để vận hành đầu máy, bởi nguồn nước cung cấp cho ejector phải có áp suất lờn hơn áp suất tại điểm châm vào.
Ví dụ: Áp lực ở điểm châm 0.7kg/cm2 thì áp lực nước vào cho EJECTOR là 4kg/cm2 và lưu lượng khoảng 1m3/h để dùng cho hệ thống châm clo 1kgclo/h. Qua đó ta có thể xác định được cỡ ống cung cấp nước cho ejector khoảng D27mm hoặc D 34mm.
